Privacy Policy

Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information FindYourPeers collects, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to your use of the FindYourPeers platform and forms part of, and should be read alongside, our Terms of Use. By using the platform, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run a student teammate-matching service:
- Information you provide: your university email address and the details you add to your account and profile, such as your program, courses, skills, and availability.
- Content you create: the posts, groups, invitations, ratings, and reports you make on the platform.
- Survey responses: if you take our optional survey, your answers are collected anonymously, unless you choose to share an email address for updates.
- Technical information: basic session cookies and standard server logs needed to keep the platform running.
We do not collect payment information.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- create and secure your account and verify that you are a current student at a supported university;
- operate the core service, including showing your profile and posts to other verified students at your university, forming groups, and combining availability;
- send you transactional emails such as account confirmation, password resets, group invitations, and reminders about your own posts;
- maintain safety and integrity, including reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms of Use, and preventing abuse;
- understand, maintain, and improve the platform.
What other users can see
FindYourPeers is a discovery platform, so the profile details and activity you add, such as your profile, posts, availability, and group memberships, are visible to other members at your university. This includes other students, and, in a course space you join, the instructor or moderators who run that space, who can also see your name and email address. Your email is also shared with teammates so they can reach you off the platform. Some information is never shown to other users, including your password, your individual peer ratings and who submitted them, and the identity of anyone who reports another user.
How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the service.
- Service providers: we use Supabase for authentication and database storage, Resend for sending email, and Vercel for hosting. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Other users: as described in the section on what other users can see.
- Legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or us, including cooperating with a university or authorities where warranted.
- Business transfers: if the platform is ever transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings if you no longer want us to keep your data.
Your choices and rights
You can view and update most of your profile information at any time from your profile page, and you can delete your account from your profile settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as Canada PIPEDA or the GDPR, including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request or ask a question about your data, contact us at jayshah3616@gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and as required by applicable law.
Security
We take reasonable steps to help protect your information. However, no method of transmitting or storing information online is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and you use the platform at your own risk. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential.
Children
FindYourPeers is intended for university students who meet the age requirements described in our Terms of Use. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone who does not meet those requirements.
International users
We operate the platform from Canada, and your information may be stored and processed in Canada and in other countries where our service providers operate. By using the platform, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in locations that may have different data protection rules than your own.
